Cathy, an experienced foster carer, is pressured into taking Jodie as a new placement. Jodie's challenging behaviour has seen off five carers in four months but Cathy decides to take her on to protect her from being placed in an institution.

Jodie arrives, and her first act is to soil herself, and then wipe it on her face, grinning wickedly. Jodie meets Cathy's teenage children, and greets them with a sharp kick to the shins. That night, Cathy finds Jodie covered in blood, having cut her own wrist, and smeared the blood over her face.

As Jodie begins to trust Cathy her behaviour improves. Over time, with childish honesty, she reveals details of her abuse at the hands of her parents and others. It becomes clear that Jodie's parents were involved in a sickening paedophile ring, with neighbours and Social Services not seeing what should have been obvious signs.

It’s clear that Josie needs psychiatric therapy, but instead Social Services take Jodie away from her, and place her in a residential unit. Although the paedophile ring is investigated and brought to justice, Jodie’s future is still up in the air. Cathy promises that she will stand by her no matter what – her love for the abandoned Jodie is unbreakable.

About the author

Cathy has been a foster carer for over 25 years, during which time she has looked after more than 150 children, of all ages and backgrounds. She has three children of her own; one of whom was adopted after a long-term foster placement. The name Cathy Glass is a pseudonym.

Cathy has written 24 books, including bestselling memoirs Cut, Hidden and Mummy Told Me Not To Tell.

    One of THE most heart wrenching book I have ever read! With the style that Cathy writes her books she takes you into her home and environment, it's as if I'm there with her as things are happening. I highly recommend this book and I don't recommend books that easily!

    I have just finished reading this book and it's turned my stomach the things that were done to this child are horrific. Cathy and her family did everything in there power to help this little girl but where were the authority's. No child should be left in the care of people like that they should be ashamed of themselves. The book is very well written.

    I read this in about 5 hours - although I am a fast reader for an amazing book! I just couldn't put this down. The end of every chapter had me pulled in to turn the page again and read 'just one more chapter' but of course it turned into the whole book! I was gripped into this book and the story of a little girl who was struggling so much. Definitely recommended highly :)

    Reading this story has moved me so much, I didn't put the book down and finished within a day. I want to praise foster parents like Cathy, as not many people will be so kind, patient and carrying like her. I can't even put my head around the trauma Jodie went through and this is a true eye opener for the social system here regarding children, I'm a mother myself and this book has only made me realise how much I love my kids and only made me more patient towards them. A big thank you to Cathy for being so strong, where the true parents failed so ugly

    This is truly one amazing read. A must. It's sad to think that anyone goes through the things that young Jodie did. This is a heartfelt story that I could not put down. I read it all in one sitting...and wanted to start it again after!
