    A novel of real magnitude and depth. The journey of the counts transformation and the characters who enter into his life is where Dumas ensnares his audience and, though his view of the French borgeois is self indulgent and at times repetitive, it ensures the reader cannot become restless. It offers far more than an array of simplistic messages, and regardless of its length, should be read at least twice.
